What was your career path that led you to your current position?

I began my career in advertising as an Assistant Account Executive at Ogilvy & Mather in Manhattan, NY. Here, I supported one of the largest account service teams in the agency tasked with brand level consumer marketing for American Express. My core responsibilities included: management of multi-million dollar budgets and project scopes, competitive and trends research and writing, and execution of creative work across TV and print verticals aligned with partners such as the Tribeca Film Festival, the US Open, and luxury travel publications. My time in New York was marked by long work days and countless late nights in the office, but I wouldn't trade this experience for the world. I met some of the brightest people in the advertising industry and received mentorship and training that helped to establish the foundations of my career.

At the end of 2012, I relocated to Dallas, TX. My decision to leave New York was based on a couple factors, among them, a better quality of life and the ability to live near my close college friends once again. I continued to hone my skills in client service/account management at The Richards Group, where I worked on brands such as Wawa, Chick-fil-A and the Dr Pepper Snapple Group. I'm grateful for the 4+ years spent within a smaller agency, where I was able to obtain valuable hands-on experience managing traditional and digital content creation, as well as developing strong relationships with my clients across various sectors of each organization.

As of June 2017, I'm now working as an Account Supervisor at Team One for the emerging technology team servicing the efforts of Lexus' Retail, Innovation & Commerce divisions. Team One and Lexus have been partners since the very inception of the brand in 1989. I'm among a nimble 40-person group of Dallas based team members spanning the strategy, creative, production and account disciplines. We continue to operate in tandem with Team One's California office, with a continued focus on seamlessly servicing our Toyota North America/Lexus clients at their new corporate headquarters in Plano. I couldn't be more excited to dive into the world of emerging technology and data science to help our clients build the dealership of the future.

What kind of credentials, education, training, prior experience are needed?

In order to pursue a career in advertising, marketing and agency specific internships while an undergraduate or post-grad are a must. During my UD undergraduate years, I made sure that my summers off were spent gaining this real-world experience via internships.

How was your major and/or your degree from UD related to your current work?

My history degree and my liberal arts education was the BEST preparation to my career. I continue to meet other advertising and marketing professionals who also have a similar background and I consistently see these folks rising quickly to the top of their profession. UD graduates know how to think critically, analyze disparate amounts of data, and present this information well. In the business of persuasion and selling through creative ideas, these skills could not be more imperative. While I would have never guessed it at the time, my liberal arts education and analytical skills made a direct impact on why I was selected for my current role on a technology/data focused team.
