|Graduate Degree:||Master of Accounting, Ohio State University|
|Current Job Title:||General Ledger Accountant I|
What was your career path that led you to your current position?
After graduating from UD, I was blessed with the opportunity to earn my Master of Accounting degree at Ohio State University. After completing that one-year program, I am now at Associa as a general ledger accountant.
What kind of credentials, education, training, prior experience are needed?
For this position, one needs a good foundational understanding of accounting. A bachelor of arts in accounting is sufficient, but I believe that my masters will give me the tools to be very successful in this position as well as allowing me to complete the CPA exam. Being a CPA is not required, but it will certainly help my ability to understand complex issues that arise as well as provide value to the company.
How was your major and/or your degree from UD related to your current work?
I was a business major with an accounting concentration at UD. Obviously, my accounting courses helped me to have the necessary knowledge to complete my duties at Associa. However, I believe that the communication skills I learned at UD, particularly through working on teams, is very important. In my position, I am working with several different groups within the company, so I need to be able to communicate with them in a clear and precise manner so that I can complete my tasks in the best way possible. More generally, I believe that the critical thinking and problem-solving skills I learned through many core classes have come in very handy. I have to evaluate situations and make judgments so that internal and external customers are satisfied, so I must be able to grasp a situation completely and make a sound decision without wasting time but while remaining accurate and consistent.
