“Encountering América” Competition

“Encountering América” Competition

How have you encountered Latin America or the Latin American influence on the United States?  Perhaps in your community, at your dinner table, through your travels, through your family and your life story?  Over the next two weeks, the Latin American Studies Concentration invites you to reflect on those encounters and produce an entry for our “Encountering América” Competition.  The competition has two categories: Photography and Flash Fiction/Non-fiction (short writing).

This competition is open to all UD students.  Submissions must be received using this form by October 1, 2020.

  1. Photography

Entrants may submit up to 2 photographs.  Images must be accompanied by a caption.  Judges will assess images on relevance to theme, impact, creativity, composition, and story-telling.  All photographs must be the work of the entrant.

  1. Flash Fiction/Non-fiction (short writing)

Entrants may submit one piece of writing (genre open) of less than 100 words in a language of the Americas.  Judges will assess submissions based on relevance to theme, creativity, impact, and style.  All submissions must be the work of the entrant only.

The Judges will select one Winner and one Honorable Mention for each category.  Those selected will receive prizes generously provided by the Office of Student Affairs.
